What are some good methods to define target audiences?

Targeting can be done on the basis of the following factors:

1) Geography - based on the areas where the TG stays. This can be useful when you are developing different strategies for different regions, keeping in mind that they will all have their own unique traits.

2) Demographic - based on the age, gender, religion, income, or any other demographic factor of the TG, this is a very commonly used criterion.

3) Psychographic - This is based on the kind of lifestyle which the TG would be leading - culture, sports, outdoors. It includes, activities, interests and opinions. This would also include personality, such as whether the TG is normally introverted or extroverted.

4) Behavioural - This is based on some specific behavior the TG may show at certain times. It can be used for special occasions, such as Valentine's Day, or birthdays. It's important to note that this is different from psychographic.

These are all explained in depth the book Marketing Management by Philip Kotler, which is an excellent starting point for anyone interested in marketing. Happy reading!
